SCAC Cross Country Teams Prepare for Conference Championship Meet

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The league's 22 cross country teams are preparing for the SCAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship, which is being hosted by University of St. Thomas and will be run on the campus of Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas, about an hour's drive from the St. Thomas campus. Official Championship Website

The races will be held on Saturday, November 1 with the men's 8K race scheduled to start at 9:00 am CT and the women's 6K to follow at 10:00 am CT.

The Colorado College men and women are the defending champions of the event, having swept the team titles at the 2024 championships which were contested at South Bossier Park in Bossier, Louisiana. It was the sixth straight championship for the CC men and fourth straight for the women.

Head coach Alex Nichols returns all eight of his all-conference performers from a year ago, including the reigning SCAC Runner-of-the-Year, junior Will Shuflit, who earned medalist honors at last year's event by posting the second-fastest time in championship history (24:43.39) to finish 22 seconds ahead of the meet runner-up. Seniors Alex Klomprens, Rabbit Barnes, Huck Whittemore, Luc Santos and Felix Battle along with sophomores Vincent Mangat and Diego Escalante also return as the 29th-ranked Tigers seek their seventh consecutive team title, which would tie the DePauw University men (2000-2006) for the second-longest streak in conference history. Rhodes College won nine straight men's cross country championships from 1991 to 1999. 2024 Men's Meet Results

Other runners to watch on the men's side include sophomore Johnathan Castro and senior Marc Mendoza of University of St. Thomas. Castro, who finished 11th at last year's championship, is the only other returning all-SCAC finisher in the field, and Mendoza posted a top 20 finish for the Celts a year ago.

On the women's side at last year's championship meet, the Colorado College women had nine runners earn all-conference honors en route to the program's eighth title in program history, the second-most on the league’s all-time list. DePauw University holds the all-time SCAC record with nine team titles.

Colorado College runners finished first through sixth as the Tigers posted just the fourth perfect score and the second-largest margin of victory in SCAC women's cross country championship meet history as they finished 48 points clear of second-place Trinity, 15-63. 2024 Women's Meet Results

CC senior Alison Mueller-Hickler returns to lead the Tigers after finishing third at last year's meet with a time of 22:22.95 - the third consecutive year she has posted a top-five finish at the conference championship.

Head coach Alex Nichols has five of his nine all-conference runners from a year ago back in pursuit of the program's fifth straight title. In addition to Mueller-Hickler, the 22nd-ranked Tigers will look for top finishes from seniors Brooktie Frogge, Abby Goodfried and Liz White as well as junior Charlie Flint when the league assembles the first Saturday in November to decide conference supremacy.

Other runners to expected to compete for all-conference honors include senior Chloe Weathers of University of the Ozarks, who became the first all-SCAC runner in school history with her 11th place finish at last year's championship meet. Senior Savanna Danner returns to lead the McMurry University women after just missing out on all-SCAC honors in 2024 with a 16th place individual finish.
