Colorado College's Shuflit Wins NCAA Regional Title to Highlight SCAC Performances

CLAREMONT, Calif., -- Colorado College junior Will Shuflit, the league's two-time Runner-of-the-Year, won the 2025 NCAA Division III West Regional meet Saturday morning at Blanchard Park Wash on the campus of Pomona College to automatically qualify for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship Meet and leading the CC men to a second-place finish. Complete Results 

Shuflit, who won the SCAC Championship Meet two weeks ago, is CC's second regional champion in the last three years as James Settles won the title in 2023. Shuflit finished Saturday's 8K race with a time of 24:50.0 and is the fourth Tiger runner to win the regional championship, joining Settles, Jackson Brainerd (2009-11) and Julian Boggs (2006).

Colorado College's second-place finish is the program's best since tying for the regional title in 2011.

Sophomore Vincent Mangat finished in 11th place with a time of 25:32.8 to earn all-region honors, as did seniors Rabbit Barnes (16th/25:45.8) and Axel Klomparens (18th/25:48.3) and sophomore Diego Escalante (31st/26:14.7).

Freshman Zach McNaul and Lincoln Brewer rounded out the Tigers' lineup by placing 60th and 62nd, respectively.

No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer took the team title with 43 points, followed by Colorado College (73), No. 25 Claremont Mudd-Scripps (80), George Fox (95) and No. 28 UC Santa Cruz (149).

University of St. Thomas scored 293 points and finished 11th in the team standings, a nine-spot improvement from 2024. The Celts were paced by first-year Elijah Emerson who earned All-Region honors with an impressive 25th-place finish. Emerson crossed the line in a time of 26:08.5. Sophomore Micah Hampton finished just outside the top 50, earning 51st with a time of 26:43.5.

Texas Lutheran University claimed a 17th-place team finish to round out the SCAC men’s squads finishing inside the top 20 at the West Regional. The Bulldogs, who finished 23rd at last year’s regional, were paced by an all-region performance from sophomore Jonas Martinez. Martinez secured 29th with a time of 26:13.8.   

Concordia University (Tex.) rounded out the team finishes competing at the West Regional, finishing 22nd with a total team score of 693. The Tornados were led by senior Samuel Valdez who crossed the line in 28:37.0 to finish 129th.   

McMurry University and LeTourneau University did not have enough runners to score but got impressive individual performances. The War Hawks were led by senior Roman Perez who finished just outside all-region honors with a 37th-place finish with a time of 26:25.9, while the YellowJackets were led by senior David Dugan’s 41st-place (26:35.7) finish.   

In addition to the NCAA West Region performances, University of the Ozarks took the course at the Midwest Region Championships at the Max Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa. The Eagles finished 15th out of 32 teams with 408 total team points. Complete Results

Senior Daniel Sanderson led a trio of Eagle finishers inside the top 80, finishing 72nd with a time of 26:42.1.

The winning team from each of the 10 regions automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III National Championship, while 22 other teams from around the country will be selected as at-large bids. In addition, the top seven individuals that are not on teams selected also advance to the national meet. The team and individual selections to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The NCAA Division III National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Spartanburg, S.C.
