SUWANEE, Ga. – Led by first team selection Adam Peavy of Texas Lutheran University, nine Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball student-athletes earned recognition with the release of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region 10 (West) Region team on Tuesday.
It marks the 22nd consecutive season the SCAC has had five or more student-athletes land on an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team. Texas Lutheran led the charge with three athletes on the listing while both Concordia (Tex.) and Hendrix placed two athletes. McMurry and LeTourneau each had one honoree.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Peavy, a senior and SCAC Player of the Year from Houston, Texas, was dominant at the plate leading the league in batting average (.439) on-base percentage (.587), slugging percentage (.719) and finished inside the top five in several other categories. Peavy finished fourth in runs scored (47) and doubles (16), and fifth in hits (61). He was the only player this season to earn SCAC Hitter of the Week honors twice. He was also a second team All-Region selection by D3baseball.com this week.
As an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selection, Peavy was also nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, May 28.
A total of three athletes represented the SCAC on the second team listing with honorees including Concordia graduate student first baseman Kalen Clark, Texas Lutheran sophomore outfielder Caleb Small and McMurry senior pitcher Hunter Poe. All three earned All-SCAC honors this season including Poe earning SCAC Pitcher of the Year.
On the third team, the SCAC posted five student-athletes as Hendrix tallied two in senior second baseman Austin Rabago and senior pitcher Aiden Leggett. Joining them on the third team were Concordia senior outfielder Landon Hyle, Texas Lutheran senior designated hitter Brayden Sprencel and LeTourneau senior pitcher Cruz Cox.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
