ABILENE, Texas - The host school McMurry University earned gold in both events contested on Friday's opening day and hold the early lead at the 2026 SCAC Women's Track and Field Championship. Official Website | Results | Photo Gallery
Competition in two events - the long jump and javelin - kickstarted the meet; a day that was highlighted by War Hawk senior Kendra Humphries becoming the first repeat champion in the javelin since 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- First-year Kasey Solis of McMurry (watch post race interview) became the second straight freshman to take top honors in the long jump by leaping to victory with a 5.39 meters (17' 8 1/4") effort. Her teammate, sophomore Emily Jackson, finished second with a jump of 5.31 meters (17' 5 1/4"). Senior Jakayla Ray of St. Thomas took third with a leap of 5.28 meters (17' 4").
- McMurry senior Kendra Humphries (watch post race interview) made it two-for-two for the War Hawks to kick off the 2026 championships, taking top honors in the javelin with a toss of 39.52 meters (129' 8") - the 10th longest in conference meet history. With the victory, Humphries becomes the first woman since Texas Lutheran's Tia Hart in 2021 to defend her title in the javelin at the conference championships. Senior Ember Hughes of Hendrix, who becomes the first female All-SCAC performer for the Warriors since Elizabeth Krug earned Athlete of the Meet honors at the 2012 championships, finished second with a throw of 37.15 meters (121' 10"). Junior Tana Thomas of McMurry was third with a toss of 32.53 meters (106' 8").
