SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches and sports information directors in the league, Aspen Young of Colorado College has been selected the 2026 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year. Complete Release
In the same balloting, Avery Williams of University of Dallas was tabbed as the league’s First-Year Player-of-the-Year and Anthony Weber of Colorado College, was selected as SCAC Coach-of-the-Year.
Young, who was recently named the first alternate for the singles competition of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships, is 22-4 overall this season, including a 19-3 dual match record, all at the No. 1 position. She rolled through the SCAC regular season and tournament with a perfect 11-0 mark at the top spot and broke the Colorado College school record for most singles wins in one season, surpassing Britt Swenson, who was 19-3 overall in 2008. Playing almost exclusively with All-SCAC Second Team selection Lucia Moravek, Young posted a 17-7 overall mark at No. 1 doubles. At the 2026 SCAC Women’s Tennis Championship two weekends ago, she earned all-Tournament honors for both her singles and doubles play, which marked the second consecutive year she has received all-tourney recognition in singles competition. On the heels of leading her squad to the national tournament for just the second time in program history and first since 1986, Young, who was a six-time SCAC Player-of-the-Week during the regular season (four time selection for singles; twice for doubles), becomes the first CC women’s player to earn SCAC Player-of-the-Year honors.
Williams, a first-year from Roswell, N.M., posted a 7-9 overall mark this season, playing exclusively at No. 1 singles for the Crusaders. She was 6-4 during the conference portion of the schedule, securing wins against the top line players at Austin College, Hendrix, McMurry, Ozarks, Schreiner and Texas Lutheran. She picked up Dallas’ only point of the match in three of those individual triumphs. The first-year also played No. 1 doubles for the Crusaders and earned a 4-10 mark over the course of her freshman campaign – mostly in combination with teammate Kathleen Roset. Williams, who also earned Second Team All-SCAC honors to become the first all-conference selection in UD women’s tennis history, is the program’s first ever SCAC First-Year Player-of-the-Year award recipient.
In his 13th season as the head coach of the Tigers, Weber led the currently 25th-ranked Colorado College women’s tennis squad to the 2026 SCAC championship match where the Tigers defeated Concordia University (Texas), 4-0, to earn the program’s first-ever SCAC title. By virtue of its win, Colorado College (20-4) earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament – the program’s first national tournament appearance since 1986. Colorado College rolled through the SCAC schedule this season without losing a team point in all 12 matches against league opponents. CC went 2-1 against ranked competition this season, defeating No. 22 Wellesley (5-2) and No. 31 Cal Tech (4-3) with its lone ranked loss coming to former SCAC member, Trinity (5-2). The COTY award is the second for Weber, who earned his previous recognition following the 2014-15 season when he led CC to the first of its three total conference title appearances.
