SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College has named Jon Schimming as its new head men's and women's swim coach, athletics director Michelle Filander announced. Schimming most recently served as an assistant coach at Clarion University in Pennsylvania.
"We're excited to welcome Jon to the 'Roo athletics family," said Filander. "He brings terrific experience both as a coach and a student-athlete. Jon's knowledge of the sport and commitment to helping his students achieve excellence both in the pool and the classroom make him an ideal fit for Austin College."
Schimming is a 2019 graduate of Concordia University Irvine (Calif.), competing as an NCAA Division II swimmer and helping the school capture the 2018-19 the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference championship. Beginning in 2023, he worked as an assistant coach at Clarion, another Division II program, where he helped coach his team to 13 individual school records and five relay school records. Four of his swimmers qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships, with two earning All-America status.
After receiving his bachelor's degree in kinesiology, he earned his master's in communications from Drury University in Springfield, Mo. While there, he worked as a graduate assistant from 2021-2023. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant coach at prestigious Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., from 2019-2021.
