HOW IT HAPPENED
- After finishing as runner-up in the event a year ago, junior Bruce Brown of McMurry (watch post race interview) took top honors in the javelin at this year's meet, shattering the former SCAC meet record with an effort of 62.18 meters (204' 0"). Sophomore Oliver Smeal of Colorado College took second place with a toss of 61.19 meters (200' 9") and junior Jordan Raschke of McMurry finished third with a throw of 53.60 meters (175' 10"). Brown and Smeal are the first athletes in SCAC history to achieve 200+ feet javelin tosses at the conference championship meet and Brown's mark is the 11th-best this season in Division III. The former SCAC meet record of 198' 8" was set in 2009 by Trinity's Chris Baer.
- McMurry sophomore Kamryn Cleveland (watch post race interview), who finished third in the event as a freshman, took gold in the long jump, posting a winning leap of 7.08 meters (23' 2 3/4"). Colorado College freshman Jonah Greenberg posted a jump of 7.06 meters (23' 2") to earn silver while McMurry sophomore Evan Garcia was third with a jump of 6.75 meters (22' 1 3/4").
