LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's golf senior Hannah Newell was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team, announced the organization on Tuesday.
Newell becomes the first golfer in program history to earn the distinguished honor, and the second YellowJacket to garner Academic All-America this season (Maddie Flanery, Softball). Newell is the 12th student-athlete in LeTourneau history to collect Academic All-America honors.
CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees (which includes golf student-athletes) in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The Academic All-America teams are voted on by athletics communications personnel from across the country.
Newell -- a recent graduate from Houston, Texas -- is one of the most decorated four-year players in program history with both her performance on the course and in the classroom. She became the first LeTourneau student-athlete to earn the prestigious NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, as she collected the honor after helping the YellowJackets reach the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time in 2026.
Newell became just the second player in program history to earn all-conference honors in all four seasons. She earned All-SCAC second team in 2026 after posting a scoring average of 80.93 with five top-10s and two top-five finishes. She tied for ninth at the SCAC Championships to help LeTourneau to the program's first conference title and a berth into the NCAA Division III Championships.
She ended her career second in program history in scoring average (81.05), first in birdies (84), and second in rounds played (76.5).
Newell graduated in May with a degree in chemistry and a 4.0 GPA. She was the SCAC Elite 19 Award recipient for the sport this season. Newell was a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, four-time conference all-academic, and three-time WGCA All-American Scholar.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America® program students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, compete in at least 70 percent of a team's tournaments or compete in the conference tournament, and be at least a sophomore academically.
