Bulldogs Earn Second SCAC Men's Soccer Championship with 1-0 Victory over Colorado College

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Texas Lutheran University earned its first SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament title since 2019 with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Colorado College Sunday evening at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. In the 20th minute of the contest, Carlos Longoria banked a shot from 30 yards out that proved to be the game winner. Texas Lutheran posted 16 shots and held the Tigers from any attempts in the first half, but the Tigers challenged in the second half putting up 11 shots to the Bulldogs' six. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Bulldogs doubled up the Tigers with 22 shots to Colorado's 11.
  • Evan Bremauntz provided the assist on the game winning goal, his second assist of the season. 
  • Longoria earned SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP for his efforts providing the game winner in the championship. 
  • First-year Alex Hart earned Tournament Defensive MVP playing all 90 against both LeTourneau and Colorado College.

NOTABLES

  • This was a rematch from the 2019 SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament Final which saw the Bulldogs earn a 3-1 victory. 
  • Colorado College entered the championship match without a loss, ending the year at 12-1-6.
  • Senior Carlos Longoria's goal was the lone strike of his senior season. 
  • This marked the third time this season the Tigers were held scoreless. 
  • For the first time since 2021, the SCAC Champion held its opponents scoreless in the SCAC Tournament.

As SCAC tournament champions, Texas Lutheran (12-4-3), will receive the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament and will find out its opponent when brackets are released tomorrow. Colorado College will await word on a possible at-large bid when selections are announced.
