KERRVILLE, Texas – Fourth-seeded University of the Ozarks opened play at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship with a 4-1 victory over fifth-seed University of St. Thomas in quarterfinal action Friday afternoon at the Kerrville Tennis Complex. Ozarks took a 1-0 lead into singles, securing the doubles point, winning the top two doubles lines. Kento Iwahara and Perry Guidry picked up a 6-2 win at the top line, followed by Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson winning 6-1 to give the Eagles a lead going into singles.
In singles, Ozarks went up 2-0 after Hanson earned his second point of the afternoon, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 line. St. Thomas’ Gavin Simpson got the Celts on the board, winning 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to bring the score to 2-1 Ozarks.
The Eagles would push the lead to 3-1 after Munoz earned his second point of the day, emerging victorious at line No. 3 with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 triumph. Haru Satomura slammed the door shut for the Eagles, winning 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to deliver a 4-1 win and send Ozarks into the semifinals for the first time in program history.

Ozarks improves to 12-8 on the year and marches into the SCAC semifinals for the first time in program history. The Eagles will take on top-seeded Colorado College. CC defeated Ozarks, 6-1, in Colorado College back on February 27th during the regular season. St. Thomas ends its season with an overall record of 6-7.
