On Saturday, finals were conducted in six more events, including the field events of the shot put, hammer, high jump, and triple jump and track events in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 10,000 meters. For the second consecutive year, the meet's field size precipiated the need for prelims in several track events, which were conducted throughout the afternoon.

The CC Tigers, who have 72 points, picked up their first two golds of the championships on Saturday and now have a meet-high eight all-SCAC finishes heading into Sunday's final day of competition. Texas Lutheran University is second with 68 points, defending champion and host McMurry University is third with 59 points and LeTourneau University is fourth with 58 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A year after taking bronze in the event, senior Alex Klomparens of Colorado College (watch post race interview) opened Saturday's action by taking top honors in the 10,000 meters with a finishing time of 33:07.14. Coming in second was junior David Dugan of LeTourneau in a time of 33:12.20 and third was senior Dominic Schwein of Colorado College at 33:12.55.
  • Colorado College runners swept the awards podium in the 3,000 meter steeplechase - marking just the second time in SCAC champoinship meet history and first since 2002 that one school has earned the top three finishing spots in the event. Senior Luc Santos of Colorado College (watch post race interview), who earned bronze in the event as a sophomore, led the pack to the finish line with a finishing time of 9:51.60. Sophomore Vincent Mangat took silver for the second consecutive year, crossing the line in 10:05.31 and teammate and junior Eric Coombs finished third in 10:06.05.
  • Following the morning's opening two track events, action returned to the field events where junior Jackson Harris of McMurry (watch post event interview) charted gold in the shot put, posting a winning toss of 16.13 meters (52' 11") - the third-longest throw in league history. Harris defeated last year's champion, junior Calvin Mason of LeTourneau, who had to settle for silver this year with a best effort of 16.00 meters (52' 6"), which is the fourth-best toss in SCAC meet history. Junior Owen Shi of Colorado College placed third for the second consecutive year and posted a best toss of 14.25 meters (46' 9").
  • The second men's conference record of the meet was broken when sophomore Amir McClain of Texas Lutheran (watch event interview) shattered the triple jump standard, leaping 15.18 meters (49' 9 3/4"), six plus inches longer than the previous record. Today's jump currently places McClain third in all of Division III. The former SCAC mark of 49' 3 1/2" had been set in 2009 and was held by former Centre College All-American Chrys Jones. Jones went on to win the national championship in the event later that season. Sophomore Benjamin Sweatt of LeTourneau took second place at this year's championships with a leap of 13.80 meters (45' 3 1/2") and senior Darnell Horton of Texas Lutheran was third with a jump of 13.77 meters (45' 2 1/4")
  • Texas Lutheran junior Parker Cabra (watch post event interview) cleared 2.09 meters (6' 10 1/4") on the high jump to earn gold, an effort that was just short of the conference championship meet record of 6' 10 3/4" - placing him second on the league's all-time performance list. He had finished second in the event for the past two championships. Sophomore Nick Anderson of Concordia (Texas) finished second with a clearance of 1.98 meters (6' 6") and first-year Cam Grimaldo of St. Thomas finished third, clearing 1.95 meters (6' 4 3/4").
  • Junior Calvin Mason of LeTourneau (watch post event interview), a year after taking silver in the hammer throw, earned top honors at this year's meet with a toss of 48.62 meters (159' 6"). McMurry sophomore Kelvin Goston finished second with a toss of 47.52 meters (155' 11") and Texas Lutheran junior Ian Wollard was third with a best throw of 43.09 meters (141' 4").
  • The remaining track events during the afternoon session were all preliminaries (results found here), setting up an action packed day of finals in the 110-hurdles, 400 meters, 100 meters, 800 meters, 400 meter hurdles and 200 meters - in addition to the 5,000 meters, 1,500 meters and the two team relays (4x1 and 4x4).
  • Among the highlights from Saturday's preliminaries, the SCAC meet record was bested in the 200 meters as McMurry sophomore Kamryn Cleveland posted a qualifying mark of 20.87 - the first sub 21 mark in SCAC championships history. The former mark of 21.11 had been set in 2024 by Colorado College's Josh Williams, who posted the third-fastest qualifying time (21.36) at this year's meet.
