Colorado College Women Pace SCAC Squads at NCAA Cross Country Regionals

CLAREMONT, Calif.
-- Colorado College placed four of its runners in the top 20 and finished second to lead all SCAC squads at the NCAA Division III West Region which was run in heavy rain Saturday morning at the Pomona College campus course. Complete Results

Colorado College senior Alison Mueller-Hickler won the individual title to automatically qualify for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship meet and led No. 19 Colorado College to a second-place team finish Saturday in Claremont, California.

Mueller-Hickler, who won the SCAC Championship meet two weeks ago, is the third regional champion in CC program history, joining Annabel Arnott (1995) and Gretchen Grindle (1997). Mueller-Hickler finished Saturday's 6K race with a time of 21:28.0. 

Fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured the team title with 33 points, followed by Colorado College (83), No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer (102), No. 28 Trinity University (146) and UC-Santa Cruz (149).

Mueller-Hickler completed the 6K course in 21 minutes, 28.0, followed by junior Charlie Flint, who finished sixth in 21:50.5 and also qualified for the DIII National Championship meet next weekend.
 
Mueller-Hicker and Flint earned all-region honors, as did seniors Abby Goodfried (18th/22:40.5) and Brooktie Frogge (20th/22:46.7).
 
Senior Liz White completed the scoring for the Tigers in 40th place with a time of 23:21.2, while freshman Ellie Ottem and Sadie Honig placed 54th and 56th, respectively, to round out CC's lineup.

The only other SCAC team to score at the West Regional was Concordia University (Texas), who placed 21st out of the 28 teams who sent participants to the meet. The Tornados were led by first-year Liliana Lutz who placed 132nd with a finishing time of 26:44.5.

McMurry University, University of St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran University each sent runners, but not enough to score. McMurry was led by senior Savanna Danner, who finished 43rd in a time of 23:25.1. Senior teammate Madison Soultanova placed 71st in a time of 24:19.0. St. Thomas was paced by the 78th-place finish from first-year Keyanna Brown who crossed the line in 24:32.3. Junior Alejandra Ramon posted an 86th place finish in 24:44.5. Texas Lutheran's top finisher was Audrey Malbrough who was 81st in a time of 24:35.5 and sophomore Aliyah Fonseca placed 88th in a time of 24:59.5.

At the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships, University of the Ozarks finished 21st of the 31 teams who sent participants, with senior Chloe Weathers leading the way as the Eagles' top finisher, crossing the line in 72nd place in the 223 runner field that assembled at the Max Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa. Weathers posted a 6k time of 24:04.8. Her sister, sophomore Macy Weathers, finished 126th in a time of 25:15.4. Complete Results

The winning team from each of the 10 regions automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III National Championship, while 22 other teams from around the country will be selected as at-large bids. In addition, the top seven individuals that are not on teams selected also advance to the national meet. The team and individual selections to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The NCAA Division III National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Spartanburg, S.C.
