GREGORIO MEDINA ARMAS OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a first-year goalkeeper from Teguise, Spain, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 8)
Armas kept two clean sheets in the Warriors' two weekend victories over St. Thomas and Centenary. Armas made seven saves in a 1-0 victory over the Celts, his second most saves in a single game in his young career and kept Centenary off the board with two saves in Hendrix's 3-0 victory. He finished the week with nine saves and is now currently fifth in the SCAC with 42 saves on the season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defender Sam Spencer of Austin College was a pivotal piece in the ‘Roos earning four points in the league standings last weekend. Spencer and the ‘Roos allowed just one goal and posted a shutout win over Dallas in going 1-0-1 on the week. He was also involved offensively assisting on all three of the goals AC scored over the weekend. Senior goalkeeper Casey Clemo of Centenary secured his second shutout of the season in the Gents’, 2-0, win over Ozarks at home on Friday, Clemo made six saves in the win and is now tied for eighth in the SCAC with 35 saves on the season. Junior goalkeeper Alex Wolter of Colorado College secured his ninth shutout of the season in the Tigers’, 1-0, win over LeTourneau on the road on Sunday. His ninth shutout is now tied for the most in all of Div. III. On the week, Wolter allowed just one goal and now posts the fourth best GAA in all of Div. III with a 0.364 GAA. Sophomore defender Joshua Van Wagener of LeTourneau anchored a YellowJackets’ defensive effort that last that posted one shutout and allowed just one goal in securing three points in the league standings. Van Wagener recorded an assist in the 6-0 shutout over Dallas and played in 172 out of a possible 180 minutes over the weekend. Senior midfielder Evan Bremauntz of Texas Lutheran was instrumental in controlling the defensive midfield last weekend, leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back SCAC shutout victories. Bremauntz and the Bulldogs allowed just three shots on target across two matches in defeating McMurry, 1-0, and Schreiner, 2-0.
