HAILEY GRIPKA OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a senior middle blocker from Pierce City, Mo., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Tuesday, October 14th through Saturday, October 18th. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 8)
Gripka had a career weekend totaling 15 blocks, averaging 2.14 blocks per set with seven against LeTourneau and a new career-high with eight blocks against Centenary. Against the Ladies, Gripka averaged 2.67 blocks per set and added 11 kills over the two matches.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle blocker Nora Lockhart of LeTourneau posted nine blocks, averaging 1.29 blocks per set with seven blocks in a sweep of Ozarks (Ark.). She also added 15 kills and a .433 hitting percentage in a 1-1 week for the YellowJackets. Sophomore defensive specialist Jalie Miller of McMurry totaled 32 digs over a pair of matches for the War Hawks. Miller was consistent with 16 digs in each match with a 4.57 digs per set average. First-year defensive specialist Lauralai Bradley of Ozarks (Ark.) totaled 28 digs for the Eagles with a weekend-high of 21 against LeTourneau, tying her season-high. Senior defensive specialist Jenna Palomarez of Schreiner posted 11 digs in a sweep of Concordia (Tex.) while adding a pair of service aces. Junior libero Carly Lange of St. Thomas (Tex.) tallied 34 digs in a five-set win over Colorado College, averaging 6.80 digs per set. She currently ranks in the top-10 nationally in digs per set. Senior defensive specialist Richelle Guerra of Texas Lutheran posted 21 digs in a sweep of McMurry to average 7.00 assists per set. Guerra also added four assists and a pair of service aces.
