PATRICK BASSETT OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Bassett went 2-0 in goal for Austin College over the weekend with a pair of road conference wins, including earning his second clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 victory at McMurry. For the weekend, Bassett surrendered just one goal in 180 minutes, making two saves in each win.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Casey Clemo of Centenary recorded his second career shutout in the Gents, 7-0, win over Dallas on Sunday. Clemo made one save to help Centenary secure three points in the league standings. Junior goalkeeper Alex Wolter of Colorado College made a pair of saves and posted another shutout in helping lead the Tigers to a 1-0-1 mark in league play. Wolter now leads the SCAC with an impressive 0.33 GAA this season. Sophomore defender Julian Trevino of McMurry played all 180 minutes to anchor a War Hawk defensive effort over the weekend in a pair of league matches against Austin College and LeTourneau. Trevino was a key piece in the War Hawk defensive third that allow just four goal over two matches. First year defender Alex Hart of Texas Lutheran anchored a backline for the Bulldogs that allowed just one goal in posting a perfect 2-0-0 mark in league play last weekend with wins over Ozarks (4-1) and a shutout against Hendrix (1-0). Hart and the Bulldogs are unbeaten through four matches to open SCAC play for the first time in program history. Senior center back Jeth Flores of St. Thomas helped extend the Celts shutout streak to four games over the weekend after posting a 1-0-1 record with a 2-0 win over Dallas and scoreless draw against Colorado College. Flores played 172 out of a possible 180 minutes, anchoring a defensive backline that allowed just two shot on target all weekend.
