JORGE GONZALEZ OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior goalkeeper from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 15th through Sunday, September 21st. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 4)
Gonzalez was a difference-maker in goal St. Thomas in a convincing 4-1 win at Houston-Victoria last Saturday, extending the Celts winning streak to four. Playing the full 90 minutes and keeping the Celts steady while down to 10 men, Gonzalez finished the match with six saves, increasing his season total to 21, fifth most in the SCAC.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year defender Ilan Valdez of McMurry played a full 90 minutes in helping the War Hawks post their first shutout of the season in a scoreless draw at Howard Payne last week. Valdez and his efforts helped the War Hawks limit Howard Payne to just five shots on the night, including zero in the first half.
