ASPEN YOUNG OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore from Niceville, Fla., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, April 13 through Sunday, April 19. SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 10
Young continued her outstanding season, going a perfect 3-0 at the top singles line, helping the Tigers clinch a perfect regular season in SCAC play and the top seed going into the conference tournament. Young, who dropped just two games over three matches, opened the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over UC Santa Cruz’s top athlete, before posting back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins the No. 1 athlete from Austin College and Dallas.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau went 2-0 at both the No. 1 singles and doubles flights to help LeTourneau go 2-0 and clinch a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Weeks defeated McMurry's Jenna Vincent 6-1, 6-2 and Schreiner's Mikinley Jamison, 6-1, 7-5 at the top singles flight. She and Chloe Tesser combined for wins at the top spot over foes from McMurry and Schreiner. Junior Nataly Velasco of St. Thomas helped lift the Celts into conference tournament with two key team victories thanks to her efforts at the No. 4 singles line. Velasco won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 over Schreiner’s Katherine Bergeron.
