ASPEN YOUNG OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore from Niceville, Fla., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12. SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 9
Young posted a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles as CC defeated St. Thomas, 7-0, and LeTourneau, 7-0. She defeated Lucia Rodriguez of UST, 6-3, 6-0, then beat Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau, 6-2, 6-0. She is 7-0 in SCAC matches at the #1 spot, winning all seven matches in straight sets.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Olivia Sanchez of Austin College came up big in the 'Roos' home victory over Ozarks, clinching the team's 6-1 match victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one singles. Sanchez also teamed with Emma Davidson for a victory on line one in doubles action against the Eagles. Sanchez dropped her Saturday match 4-6, 2-6 to Hendrix's Caroline Lasley. First-year Avery Williams of Dallas had an undefeated weekend and notched the second conference win of the season for the UDallas women's tennis squad. She won 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 over Hendrix in singles and won 6-1 in doubles and 6-3, 6-0 in singles over Ozarks. Junior Josie Leffingwell of Hendrix went 2-0 in the No. 2 singles to help Hendrix to a weekend sweep over the University of Dallas and Austin College. Leffingwell won 6-2, 6-2 against the University of Dallas before breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot against Austin College the next day. First-year Brooke Humphrey of Ozarks (Ark.) posted a 2-0 singles record during the Eagles conference weekend. Humphrey, playing at the No. 2 position, battled to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win against Lauren Hofeldt from Austin College on Friday. Humphrey then followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Kathleen Roset from University of Dallas on Saturday. Senior Adriana Iturralde of St. Thomas (Tex.) delivered in a clutch moment for the Celts at line four singles, securing a 6-2, 7-5 victory to clinch the match and lift St. Thomas to a win over LeTourneau.
