Winkler set the tone with a pair of line one wins in a 2-0 week for Concordia Texas. Winkler took down Daryl Locke of Southwestern (6-1, 5-7, 6-4). She then outlasted Sydney Tomlin of Hardin-Simmons in a three-set comeback (4-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Lindsay Popeo of Colorado College went 1-1 at the No. 6 singles spot in CC's spring-opening matches in Grand Junction on Saturday. She defeated I.F. Elechiguerra from Division I Utah Tech, 6-3, 7-6(2), then fell to Jane Steur of Colorado Mesa, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(7). Senior Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau went 2-0 overall at the No. 1 singles line in a pair of SCAC victories over the weekend. She took down Austin College's Olivia Sanchez, 6-1, 6-0, at the top flight on Friday and then won, 6-2, 6-1, over Dallas' Avery Williams on Saturday. First-year Madison Hamilton of Ozarks (Ark.) battled to a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles against Hendrix College. First-year Marlie McArthur of St. Thomas picked up a victory over East Texas Baptist's Jazmyne Ford-Schartner at No. 5 singles on Friday. McMarthur delivered a strong performance, battling through a tight opening set, winning 7-6 (4), followed by a 6-1 second set, and sealed the match with a 10-7 tiebreaker victory. First-year Isabella Barber of Texas Lutheran won the decisive singles match in the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the team victory over Howard Payne.
