Centenary Advances with SCAC Quarterfinal Win Over Colorado College

CONWAY, Ark. -- Senior guard Quentin Beverly had a game-high 24 points for Blue Division second seed Centenary College and the Gents advanced to Saturday's semifinal round with a 65-53 victory over Gold Division third seed Colorado College in the opening game of the 2026 SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament Friday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium on the campus of Hendrix College. Official Tournament Website | Photo Gallery | Postgame Interview | Men's Tournament Stats

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Centenary took the 22-18 halftime lead as both teams struggled to score the basketball. Centenary shot 34.6 percent (9-26) from the floor and Colorado College managed only 20.0 percent (7-35). The two teams combined to go 1-for-15 from three-point range over the first 20 minutes.
  • Centenary stretched their lead to as many as 14 with 6:58 remaining and never trailed in Saturday's quarterfinal opener.
  • The Gents were much more efficient from the floor in the second half, hitting 50.0 percent of their attempts (14-28) to finish at 42.6 percent for the game. Colorado College ended the game at 25.4 percent (17-67), their lowest field goal percentage performance of the season.

NOTABLE
  • Centenary led from start to finish, never trailing after scoring the game's first points at the 18:39 mark.
  • Centenary committed 16 turnovers to 11 for CC but both teams finished with 14 points off those turnovers.
  • This year's matchup was just the second in the conference tournament between the two long-time SCAC foes. Centenary defeated Colorado College, 83-76, in the championship game of the 2024 event.
  • With the victory, Centenary improved to 14-10 all-time in SCAC tournament action and is the winningest active men's program in conference tournament play. 
  • Colorado College ends its season with a 12-14 mark.
