VICTORIA SOSSAMAN OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 2 through Sunday, March 8. SCAC Softball Release - Week 5
Sossaman posted a 2-1 record in the circle last week, including a 2-0 mark in SCAC play in helping the Celts sweep three-game series against Dallas. She finished the week with a 1.34 ERA, including a perfect 0.00 ERA in conference action, scattering 16 hits over 15.2 innings of work. Sossaman struck out 12 batters and is now second in the SCAC with 40 strikeouts on the season and is tied for first with 56.0 innings worked. After opening the week with a loss to Div. I Texas State, Sossaman closed out the week with a 0.00 ERA, two complete games, 12.0 innings pitched, nine strikeouts, and zero earned runs in two wins over the Crusaders.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Karlee Mathis of Concordia (Tex.) helped lead the Tornados to a three-game SCAC sweep of LeTourneau, earning a win and a save across two appearances. Mathis threw a complete-game victory in the Tornados’ 7-5 win before returning the next day to record the save in a 10-7 series finale. Over 8.1 innings of work, she posted a 3.36 ERA with four strikeouts while helping secure two conference victories for Concordia. Sophomore pitcher Thalia Reyes of McMurry made four appearances last week in the circle, posting a record of 1-0 in 8.0 innings of work. She scattered just six hits and allowed just one earned run, while striking out nine in posting a 0.88 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. Junior right-hander Bailee Cowell of Ozarks went 2-0 with a save to push the Eagles to a 4-1 week, including winning the series against McMurry. Cowell opened the week with a save against Lyon, by tossing the final two innings and not allowing a run. In the Eagles series against McMurry, Cowell finished with six strikeouts over 14.0 innings of work. Cowell capped the week by not allowing an earned run in game three in another complete game win and pushing the Eagles to its third straight conference series win. Senior pitcher Katelyn Howard of Texas Lutheran tossed her seventh complete game of the season, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six in the Bulldogs’ 8-1 win over Austin College on Sunday.
