ALEX TRINH OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior second baseman from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 9
Trinh, who has now hit safely in 26 of 27 games this season, went 11-for-18 (.611), last week with three multi hit games to help the Celts post a 3-1 record, including a three-game series sweep over Texas Lutheran. Trinh, who is currently fourth in all of Div. III and first in the SCAC with a .513 batting average, finished the week with six RBI, one home run and one double to go along with six runs scored, a .632 on-base percentage and a .889 slugging percentage.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior second baseman/outfielder Clay Menard of Centenary had a big weekend at the plate as he helped lead the Diamond Gents to a three-game road sweep at Southwestern as he went 3-for-9 (.333) with a .600 on-base percentage. Menard had three RBI, scored four runs, and walked six times and delivered a clutch two-RBI single in the series opener on Friday to tie the game at 4-4 with two outs, a game which Centenary won 5-4 in 10 innings. Junior catcher Michael Smosna of McMurry continued his outstanding season last weekend, posting an impressive .545 batting average (6-for-11) with three home runs and a triple in a series sweep over Austin College. Smosna drove in 10 runs to move into a tie for the league lead with 46 RBI on the season, he scored four runs, stole one base, and posted a .545 and 1.545 on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Sophomore outfielder Conner Reed of Ozarks helped the Eagles to their first conference sweep of the season by going 7-for-15 (.466) with three runs and five RBI against University of Dallas. Reed had three hits, two runs and two RBI to open the series against on Saturday night. In the Eagles extra inning win against on Sunday, Reed had two more hits and two more RBI. He wrapped up the series with two hits and drove in a run. Junior utility player Brayden Sprencel of Texas Lutheran went 4-for-10 (.400) with four RBI and four runs scored in the Bulldogs three-game series against St. Thomas. Sprencel drew three walks to post a .571 on-base percentage and slugged .400 on the week. Senior outfielder Maddox McDonald of Trinity batted .583 (7-for-12) for the week, scoring three runs, and collecting seven RBI to lift the Tigers to a series win over Schreiner. He had two doubles and a home run among his seven hits to boost his slugging percentage to 1.000, while also drawing three walks to post an on-base percentage of .688. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI in Trinity's bounceback 15-5 win on Saturday, then added three more hits in the Sunday finale - including a double in the eighth inning that set up the eventual game-winning sac fly. This season, McDonald is hitting .345 (38-for-110) with 29 runs scored and is tied for the team lead with 33 RBI.
