Abilene
Established by cattlemen as a stock shipping point on the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1881, Abilene was named after Abilene, Kansas, the original endpoint for the Chisholm Trail. With a population of 125,182 as of the 2020 census, Abilene is home to three Christian universities: Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University, and, of course, McMurry University. It is the county seat of Taylor County, and Dyess Air Force Base is located on the west side of the city.
Edwards Field
Opened in February 2020, Edwards Field's namesake is Murray and Kathi Edwards, who provided a generous donation to help fund the facility. The venue seats 300 fans with bleachers stretching out from the center to both sides, while also providing an area on each side for fans to bring lawn chairs. Another key feature is the state-of-the-art playing surface, which contains the same type of dirt used by the Texas Rangers baseball team. The Nevco video board in left center field enhances the gameday experience with player cards, motion and still graphics, as well as promotional content between innings.
