COREY THOMPSON OF ST. THOMAS (TEX.), a junior from Houston, Tex., has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Friday, February 13 through Sunday, February 15. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 14)
Thompson averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. He totaled 48 points, hit five three-pointers, and went 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) from the free throw line to help secure a 2-0 weekend. Thompson also added 12 rebounds and seven assists. This marks his second offensive weekly award of the season and third in total.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Kidus Getenet of Austin College had a big weekend in his final two home games at Austin College, helping the 'Roos go 2-0 and stay alive in the hunt for a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Getenet averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field and 38.5% from long distance. The senior posted 24 points against Schreiner and added three steals. First-year Jaden Braden of Centenary continued to shine for the Gents as he averaged 17.0 PPG in a pair of home games against Hendrix and Ozarks and added 11 rebounds, nine assists, and three steals. He has now reached double figures 18 times this season, in 11-straight games and in 13 of his last 14. Braden shot 40.6 % from the floor for the weekend and went 8-of-11 at the FT line. Junior Gavin Carter of Colorado College moved into the top-10 in career assists in program history after a career-high 13 assists on Friday against Concordia (Tex.). He followed up the career performance with a game-high 13 points, six assists, one steal and one block on Sunday in a win over Texas Lutheran. First-year Luke Paton of Dallas averaged 17.5 points per game on an efficient 63.2 percent shooting from the field, 75 percent from three, and 88.9 percent at the line across two starts. He totaled 35 points in just 56 minutes and added eight assists. First-year Holden Plant of Hendrix averaged 20.5 points over the weekend versus Centenary and LeTourneau. He dropped a career-high 23 points against the Gents in Shreveport, then followed that up with 18 points versus LeTourneau on Saturday. Senior Jackson Mayes of LeTourneau averaged 20.5 points -- shooting 65.4 percent from the field -- with 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 assists per game in a 2-0 week. He had 20 points with two rebounds in a 100-51 win over Ozarks to open the week. Mayes then had 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals in a 102-62 Senior Day win over Hendrix. Senior Jalen Cherry of McMurry averaged 21.0 points over the weekend including 34 against Dallas, a career-best mark with the War Hawks. Cherry shot 41.7 percent from the floor and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the FT line. Senior Adam Lopez of Ozarks (Ark.) averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field in a 1-1 week for the Eagles. Lopez missed just one shot from the field against LeTourneau to score 14 points. He followed that with a 20-point, 9-rebound effort in a win against Centenary. Senior Mason Wallace of Texas Lutheran averaged 17.5 points per game for the Bulldogs shooting 55 percent from the floor. Wallace added 11 total rebounds and a pair of assists over the weekend.
