COREY THOMPSON OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS (Tex.), a junior guard from Missouri City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, November 10 through Sunday, November 16. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 2)
Thompson delivered a standout offensive week for the Celts, averaging 20.7 points over three games. The junior scored 23 in a one-point loss to No. 5 Wash U shooting over 60 percent from the floor, accounting for all but 30 of the Celts' points against the Bears. Averaging 30 minutes a game, he shot nearly 55 percent from the floor and banked 10 3-pointers. He finished the week with 62 points, six assists and 15 steals.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Quentin Beverly of Centenary led all scorers with 23 points on Friday night in the Gents' home opener against ETBU as he finished 8-of-16 from the floor and played all 40 minutes. Beverly hit four 3-pointers and added seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal and only turned the ball over one time. Junior guard Gavin Carter of Colorado College led the Tigers to a 83-67 win over Kalamazoo on Sunday in Michigan. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and a team-high seven assists. He also scored eight points and had five assists against No. 12 Calvin University on Saturday. First-year guard Tremayne Martin of Concordia (Tex.) was electric in his debut in a 119-96 win over Dallas Christian. The first-year came off the bench and tallied game-highs of 31 points and 11 boards. Martin shot an efficient 57.9 (11-19 FGM) percent from the field with four three-pointers and five free throws to help account for the total. Senior guard Jackson Mayes of LeTourneau averaged 27.5 points, shooting 50 percent from the field, with 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 assists per game in a 2-0 week for LeTourneau. Mayes tied a career-high with 31 points to go with five rebounds, two assists, and four steals in a 109-86 win over Belhaven. Junior guard JaRayl People of McMurry averaged 14.0 points per game over a 1-2 week for the War Hawks. People scored 26 points to help the team to an 84-82 win over MUW as he shot 71.4 percent from the floor and added 12 rebounds for the double-double. Junior guard DJ Miller of Ozarks (Ark.) averaged 14.0 points over two games for the Eagles adding five rebounds and five assists. In his first game for Ozarks (Ark.), he poured in 23 points coming off the bench. Junior guard Justin Gooden of Schreiner averaged 18.0 points per game for the Mountaineers over a 1-1 week. Gooden was consisten with 19 & 17, respectively, and added four rebounds and four assists.
