INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the second time in the last three years, the SCAC will have two men’s teams competing for the national championship as conference champion University of St. Thomas and Trinity University were among the 43 teams selected for the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship. This year marks the 10th time in SCAC history the league has sent multiple teams to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships and the third time since 2015 (2003, 05, 06, 07, 2010, 11, 14, 15, 2023).
St. Thomas is headed to the national championship for the second time in program history after securing one of the 34 automatic qualifying berths into the field. UST secured 16th at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Last month, the Celts battled a strong SCAC field and surged to a three-stroke victory to secure the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Championship.
The Celts, ranked 37th in the most recent CLIPPD rankings, finished in the top-four at seven of their eight competitions this year, highlighted by the SCAC Championship in April. Individually, St. Thomas is led by sophomore Antonio Ramirez who is currently ranked 37th in the most recent CLIPPD rankings. Ramirez has an impressive 358-75-6 record against competitors this season, with three top three finishes, including medalist honors at the SCAC Championships and holds an impressive 71.9 adjusted scoring average.
Trinity returns to the national championship for the third time in the last five years, finishing 15th at the 2023 Championship. The Tigers, currently ranked 10th in the country in the most recent CLIPPD rankings earned one of the nine Pool C bids into the national tournament. Trinity finished in the top three at seven different events this year, highlighted by wins at the SCAC Fall preview in September and the Space City Classic in February. Individually, Trinity is led by first-year Sam Rossi who is currently ranked 41st in the most recent CLIPPD rankings. Rossi is 294-127-6 against all competitors this year and takes an adjusted scoring average of 72.3 into the national championship.
The championships will be held May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York, and will be hosted by St. John Fisher and Rochester NY Sports Commission. In addition to Midvale, first and second round competition will be played simultaneously at Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, New York. The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round. Forty-three teams and ten individuals not on one of those teams will be selected to participate in the championships. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
A total of 225 participants will compete at the 2025 championships. Thirty-four conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. The final nine berths were at-large selections, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and independent institutions. The ten individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.
Methodist is the defending national champion, winning the 2024 team title in Boulder City, Nevada. The one-stroke victory over 2023 champion, Carnegie Mellon, set a new DIII men’s 72-hole scoring record for the championship at 1,131.
