BAILEE COWELL OF UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS, a junior right-hander from Lamar, Ark., has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 16 through Sunday, February 22. SCAC Softball Release - Week 3
Cowell threw a pair of shutouts and went 3-0 while helping the Eagles to a 4-1 record last week, including an SCAC sweep of Hendrix. Against the Warriors, Cowell tossed a pair of complete game shutouts, scattering seven hits in 12 innings of work. Cowell picked up her first win of the week in a relief appearance against Lyon, where she retired six straight batters to end the game. In total, Cowell allowed just 12 hits over 14 innings of work, striking out seven and issuing just three walks. She posted a perfect 0.00 ERA to go along with a sparkling 0.71 WHIP.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher Lauren Trott of Austin College was stellar in her one appearance in the circle last weekend against Dallas, tossing a complete game to get the win in a 9-1 decision with the only run surrendered being unearned. Trott allowed just two hits in 6.0 innings of work, and boasted a 0.67 WHIP in the game. Sophomore pitcher Karlee Mathis of Concordia posted two quality appearances in relief efforts at Schreiner in helping the Tornados earn a series victory. In a 13-4 game two win, Mathis pitched the final two frames while only allowing one hit and no walks. She then entered game three with the Tornados trailing and helped spark a comeback in a 6-4 victory where she tossed the final five frames, allowing only six base runners and one run. In total, Mathis tossed seven innings, scattered just five hits, allowed just one run, struck out three and posted a 1.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Sophomore Bree Brege of LeTourneau went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA across two appearances and 7.2 innings of work. She threw a six-inning complete game in a 12-1 win at McMurry where she allowed one unearned run on eight hits with two strikeouts. She came on in relief in game three of the series and threw 1.2 innings allowing two unearned runs on two hits. Senior pitcher Katelyn Howard of Texas Lutheran continued her dominant start to the 2026 season - appearing in all three games last weekend and picking up two Top 25 wins over St. Thomas, including a complete game shutout in game three to move to 6-0 on the season. She only allowed one run on a solo home run over 12 innings of work and struck out eight batters, while posting a 0.58 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the week.
