ELIJAH EMERSON OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a first-year from Katy, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, August 29 and Saturday, August 30. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Running in his first collegiate meet, Emerson placed seventh with a time of 15:32 in the 5k at the Stormy Seas Opener hosted by Southwestern University. The freshman was the top Division III competitor finishing behind an unattached runner and five student-athletes from the University of Texas.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Zach Wroten of Centenary led the Gents at the Lumberjack Invitational with a 29th place finish and a time of 19:27 over three miles. First-year Marcus Broussard of Dallas ran an 18:06.3 5k to lead the Crusaders at the Stormy Seas Opener. Senior Elijah Oudyn of LeTourneau led the YellowJackets at the Lumberjack Invitational with a 3-mile time of 16:08. The senior from Yorkville, Illinois finished 15th overall amidst Division I runners and helped LeTourneau to a second-place finish. Senior Daniel Sanderson of University of the Ozarks was the top finisher for the Eagles at the Memphis Twilight on Saturday as he placed 34th overall with a time of 20:47.60 in the four-mile race. Sanderson, who competed against mostly NCAA I runners, was the first NCAA III competitor to cross the finish line and his 4-mile time also set a new program record for the Eagles. First-year Dominic Pardon of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the Stormy Seas Opener with a time of 17:20 in the 5k. First-year Prince Medrano of Texas Lutheran secured a 10th place finish at the Stormy Seas Opener. He completed the 5k course in a time of 15:57, finishing as the second-best time in the SCAC behind Elijah Emerson, leading the Bulldogs to a 4th place team finish.
