KATELYN HOWARD OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Waller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 23 through Sunday, March 1. SCAC Softball Release - Week 4
Howard tossed two complete game shutouts to lead TLU to a sweep of LeTourneau as the Bulldogs outscored the YellowJackets 20-0 over the series. Howard struck out 13 of 54 batters faced and only walked three, leading the SCAC with 34 Ks on the season. In addition to her perfect 0.00 ERA, she also posted an impressive 0.86 WHIP while leading the SCAC on the week with 13 strikeouts.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Zoey Harrell of Austin College made the first start of her collegiate career a memorable one, going the distance with a complete game shutout while allowing just one hit in a 5-0 victory. Harrell struck out two batters and walked just one, boasting an incredible 0.29 WHIP. First-year pitcher Dixie Williams of Centenary pitched a complete game for the Ladies in her first collegiate start as she led them to a crucial 5-4 win on Sunday at Concordia as they salvaged the final game of a three-game weekend series. Williams allowed four runs, only two earned, and four hits in her seven IP with five BB and three K's. Junior pitcher Kylie Kirk of Concordia tossed a complete-game shut out in game one of the series with Centenary. She struck out nine batters and only allowed five base runners (two hits) in six innings of action. Sophomore pitcher Emma Sherman of Dallas delivered a complete-game effort, tossing 6.0 innings with a strong 3.50 ERA while limiting opponents to a .217 batting average and a sharp 1.17 WHIP. By allowing just five hits and no home runs, she showcased efficiency and command that anchored the staff and set the tone in the circle. Junior right-hander Bailee Cowell of Ozarks helped the Eagles win the series against Austin College by going 1-1 with ten total strikeouts. She threw a complete game shutout in game one. Cowell's ERA remains below a 1.00 and has only given up four earned runs all season. Junior Celina Marchan of Schreiner made two appearances last week in the circle, posting a 1-0 record with her win coming in SCAC play against Dallas. She finished the week with 0.66 ERA over 10.2 innings of work, striking out three and posting a 0.84 WHIP. Junior Victoria Sossaman of St. Thomas went 2-0 last week in the circle, helping the Celts secure a sweep over SCAC opponent McMurry. Sossaman struck out eight batters, scattering eight hits over 12 innings of work and allowed just two earned runs to post a 1.17 ERA.
