PENFIELD, N.Y. – Following the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships both Trinity University and the University of St. Thomas finished in the top-25 but came up short of making the cut into the final two rounds of action. Live Results
The Tigers fell just short of making the cut, finishing in a four-way tie for 17th, but lost out in a playoff to determine the final two teams moving on to the next two rounds. The Celts jumped eight spots on day two but finished 25th, six spots outside the top-18 which qualified for the final two rounds. Trinity finished the first two rounds sixth in par-4 scoring (4.30) and totaled 21 birdies (T11th in the field), while St. Thomas completed the opening two rounds with 17 total birdies (T26th) and 92 pars (T25th).
Trinity tied with the University of Redlands (CA), Gettysburg College (PA), and Amherst College (MA) with a two-round score of 611 to force the playoff. All five players from each team played a hole (7, 8, 9, 15, and 16) and the two lowest aggregate scores moved on (Gettysburg and Amherst), while the other two teams (Trinity and Redlands) were cut. Trinity shot 297-314 (611) across two rounds, which was just six shots from a spot in the top 10.
Trinity was led by Jacob Mason and his two-day total of 149 (73-76) that placed him in a tie for 24th place individually. He was one of 13 total players tied with scores of 149, which was likely just one shot from potentially qualifying as an individual. Mason finished the week with five total birdies, two of which were during today's round.
St. Thomas fired a round two score of 307 to finish with a 36-hole team total of 621 (+45). The Celts were led individually by first-year Jesus Del Aguila who carded a sparkling second round of 70 (-2). He was one of just eight players in the field that shot under par in the second round and was tied for the third lowest score on the day. Del Aguila’s second round effort vaulted him into a tie for eight after posting an opening two round score of two-over par 146 (76-70). With his finish through the first two rounds, Del Aguila has qualified to vie for the individual national title as one of the top six individuals following the opening two rounds not on a team that made the cut for the final two days. He has carded seven birdies through the opening two rounds (T9th in the field) and is just eight shots back of the leader, Will Karkoc of Bethel (MN). Del Aguila is scheduled to tee off the third round at 10:30 AM ET on hole No. 10.
