JORDAN BRAVO OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from McAllen, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 9 through Sunday, February 15. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 14)
Bravo grabbed 11.0 rebounds per game, 10.5 on the defensive end and added 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks to lift the War Hawks to a perfect 2-0 week on the road. Her efforts helped limit opponents to just 39.5 points per game and did not allow either home opponent reach the 50-point plateau.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard Kayla Mackel of Colorado College impacted both ends of the floor in a 2-0 weekend for the Tigers. The Houston native finished with eight blocks, 12 rebounds and 21 total points over the two games. On Friday against Concordia (TX), Mackel had a career-high five blocks against the Tornados, then followed it up with three more blocks on Sunday against TLU. She also added 10.5 points per game. Junior forward Riley Brady of Hendrix averaged 8.5 defensive boards and 2.5 steals in the Warrior’s weekend sweep over Centenary and LeTourneau. First-year guard Kaylin Cervantes of LeTourneau averaged 3.5 steals with 4.5 rebounds to go along with 8.5 points in an 0-2 week for LeTourneau. She had 13 points with five steals and five rebounds in a loss to Ozarks. Cervantes then had two steals, four rebounds, and four points in a loss to Hendrix. Junior Abby Beene of Ozarks put forth a defensive effort that pushed the Eagles to a 2-0 record over the weekend and secured a spot in the post-season. Beene totaled three steals and helped the Eagles limited their opponents to a 35 percent shooting clip in both games. Beene led a defense that only allowed a total of 16 points in the first quarter and also pulled down a total of eight defensive rebounds. Junior forward Jaydia Morris of St. Thomas anchored the defensive effort across two starts, averaging 30.5 minutes per game while controlling the paint and securing rebounds. She totaled 15 rebounds for a 7.5 per-game average and added 19 points over the weekend. Morris’ steady presence on both ends and her ability to impact the game defensively were key factors in the Celts’ 2-0 weekend.
