BRYCE NEVES OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore linebacker from Abilene, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games played Thursday, September 4 and Saturday, September 6. SCAC Football Release (Week 1)
Neves totaled eight tackles on Saturday, including six solo and two tackles for loss, in the War Hawks' 27-19 loss to Southwestern. The sophomore linebacker also added a sack helped the War Hawks' post the lowest yards allowed in the league with just 233 yards given up to the Pirates.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Jayvian Coulter of Hendrix racked up a career-high 11 tackles (all solo) to lead all participants in the Warriors' 40-14 loss to Maryville (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore linebacker Marvin Farris of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldog defense with 10 tackles, including five solo, in TLU's season-opening 26-14 loss to Trinity (Tex.) on Thursday evening.
