COLLIN BRUNING OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Abilene, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Tuesday, March 17 through Sunday, March 22. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 7
Bruning had a monster game in the series finale against Hendrix going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two grand slams amassing eight RBI, tied for the second-most all-time in a single game in the SCAC. The sophomore hit .583 (7-for-12) over a weekend sweep against Hendrix with 12 RBI, six runs scored and six of seven hits being for extra bases. Bruning posted a stellar 1.667 slugging percentage for the week totaling 20 bases in 12 at bats.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Vance Sartor of Centenary finished .364 (4-for-11) with five RBI, a double, a home run, five BB, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Sartor did not strike out in the series and in Centenary's 10-5 win in game two of a DH on Saturday he finished 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs scored, a BB, a stolen base, a double, and a homer. Senior Landon Hyle of Concordia (Tex.) hit .611 (11-for-18) across four games, recording 12 RBIs, 11 runs scored, and multiple extra-base hits, including two home runs, four doubles, and a triple. Hyle reached base at a .667 clip while posting a 1.278 slugging percentage, consistently producing in every game of the series. He recorded multiple multi-hit performances and was a key contributor in Concordia’s 54-run, 63-hit output over the the four games helping lead the Tornados to a 3-1 week, including a midweek victory over (RV) Wooster & a series win over Austin College. Sophomore Jack Kale of LeTourneau batted .467 (7-for-15) with a home run, six RBIs, two doubles, and two runs scored in a series at Ozarks. He went 4-for-6 with five RBIs and two doubles in a 15-12 win in the opener. Kale went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in game two and had a home run in game three. Junior Gabriel Ellison of Ozarks (Ark.) hit .533, slugged .800 and drove in ten runs to push the Eagles win the series against LeTourneau. Ellison finished 8-for-15 with a homer and a double. Ellison opened the series with a four-hit and four-RBI performance and then followed with another 4-RBI game. Ellison finished game three with a pair of RBI to help the Eagles clinch the series. Senior Daniel Rodriguez of Schreiner totaled eight hits in a series win over St. Thomas (Tex.) hitting .615 with two RBI and five runs scored. Rodriguez was 4-for-5 in the series finale with a double and recorded a hit in each game. Senior Adam Peavy of Texas Lutheran hit the game-winning home run against Mary Hardin-Baylor as he totaled two homers over four games with five hits. Peavy posted a .929 slugging percentage with four RBI and five runs scored.
