LUKE GILL OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior from Southlake, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Tuesday, February 24 through Sunday, March 1. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 4
Gill was electric at the plate, hitting .526 with 10 hits (8 in conference play), four home runs (3 in conference) and a staggering 1.211 slugging percentage across four games. The junior totaled 23 bases, five RBI, and five runs scored and posted two or more hits in each contest.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Jorge Villalobos of Austin College helped the 'Roos to a series win over Ozarks (Ark.) going .500 at the plate with a .692 on-base percentage. Villalobos scored five runs with three RBI and was a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen bases. The sophomore had at least two stolen bases, a hit, and a run scored in each game. Senior Clay Menard of Centenary helped lead the Diamond Gents to a series win at home over Concordia (Tex.) as he hit a sizzling .700 (7-of-10) highlighted by a career-best four-hit performance in game two of a DH on Saturday. Menard totaled two RBI, three walks, a double, a stolen base, and three runs scored for the series as he finished with an OBP of .769 and slugged .800. Senior Landon Hyle of Concordia (Tex.) was consistent at the plate for the Tornados, batting .500 (6-12) with a pair of hits in all three games against Centenary. The senior homered twice as he went yard once in the final two games of the series. Senior Austin Rabago of Hendrix went a combined 7-for-18 at the plate in the Warriors' four-game series win over the University of the Redlands. The senior scored four runs and totaled six RBIs while also drawing three walks and slashing .389/.476/.556 on the weekend. Junior Jonah McDaniel of LeTourneau batted .400 (6-for-15), making the most of his six hits with a pair of home runs, six RBIs, five runs scored, and an OPS of 1.300 on the week. He was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in a loss at nationally-ranked ETBU. In a three-game series vs. Texas Lutheran, McDaniel went 5-for-12 (.417) with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs. He was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs with two steals in game two of the series and had a hit in all three games. Junior Gabriel Ellison of Ozarks (Ark.) hit .471 with nine RBI and seven runs over five games for the Eagles. Ellison caught fire in game two against Lyon College, hitting a grand slam and a pair of doubles to record seven RBI. For the week, Ellison owned a .941 slugging percentage. He also had two steals during the week and three walks. Sophomore Caleb Small of Texas Lutheran posted a .385 batting average with five hits and five RBIs across a 2-1 weekend for the Bulldogs. Small totaled three extra-base hits over the week with a double, triple and homer.
