LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Johnson & Wales and Colorado College opened the league portion of the 2018-19 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule to highlight a light week of men's basketball action with four of nine teams idle to focus on exams.

JWU (8-2, 1-0) defeated CC (4-6, 0-1), 84-60, on the road last Tuesday behind 21 points and 11 rebounds from senior Jontrell Herman. After falling behind by nine and only scoring two points through the opening six and a half minutes of play, JWU closed out the half with 38 points over the final 13 minutes to open a 13-point lead at intermission en route to victory. Johnson & Wales kept busy with three non-conference games during the week, posting a 2-1 record in those contests which included wins over Caltech and Chapman. Colorado College finished the week, 0-3, following its loss to JWU with non-conference losses to Nebraska Wesleyan and Grinnell.
Texas Lutheran (3-4) split a pair of non-conference games last week, defeating Concordia on Monday, 79-77, before falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Wednesday. In the win, Jacob Kouremetis nailed a pair of three-point field goals in the final minute, including the game-winning three with just 14 seconds left to finish with a game-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs.
In other non-conference action, Dallas (1-6) dropped its lone contests of the week, falling to St. Thomas, 108-60. Southwestern (3-5) returned to the hardwood for the first time this month, losing a pair of games in California, falling to George Fox on Friday and Lewis & Clark on Saturday.
