LOGAN BRINKOETER OF LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Sunday, December 28 through Sunday, January 4. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 8)
Brinkoeter collected his third straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, including 10 defensive, with one block and one steal in an 80-75 win at Centenary in the YellowJackets' only game of the week. It was Brinkoeter's fifth double-double this season. This marks his second-straight defensive player of the week honor.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Ryan Dupre of Austin College was outstanding defensively in a pair of games last week, averaging 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steal-per-game while pulling down eight rebounds, including six on the defensive glass, and averaging 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists-per-game. First-year Tremayne Martin of Concordia (Tex.) provided a spark off the bench as he was active defensively in a pair of wins last week for the Tornados. In a 98-92 conference-opening win over TLU, Martin collected three boards and one steal as he was able to turn the Tornados' pressure into fast break offense. He then added four steals and four boards in a 92-91 victory over UMHB. Junior DJ Miller of Ozarks (Ark.) averaged 10.3 points, 1.3 steals and 5.3 rebounds over four games for the Eagles. Miller pulled down 12 defensive boards in a pair of conference contests against Hendrix. On Sunday against the Warriors, Miller recorded four steals, secured ten rebounds and scored 15 points to push the Eagles to a win. Junior Nicholas Buffalo of St. Thomas (Tex.) made a strong impact on the defensive end, helping the Celts to a 78-62 conference win over Colorado College. In 19 minutes of action, he pulled down 10 rebounds, including seven on the defensive glass, giving the Celts a steady presence on the boards. Buffalo also added a block and an assist.
