ETHAN COSTELLO OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Tuesday, March 31 through Sunday, April 5. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 9
Costello was 7-for-14 (.500) for the weekend with a pair of RBIs in a sweep of Ozarks (Ark.). Costello had two or more hits in each contest along with a stolen base and a walk and five runs scored. The sophomore began the series going 3-for-4 with a walk and had a pair of hits in both games two and three.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Bryce Bienvenu of Centenary went 3-for-9 with three RBI, four runs scored, two walks, and did not strike out in the Diamond Gents' series win at TLU. He tied his season-high of three RBI in Centenary's win in game two of Friday's DH. First-year Reed Ketcham of Hendrix collected two three-hit games in the Warriors' weekend sweep of the University of Dallas. The freshman went 3-for-4 in the series opener while also drawing a walk and tallying an RBI. He hit lead-off in game two and went 3-for-4 again, this time scoring three runs while collecting another RBI. In total, Ketcham was 6-for-16 on the week while hitting .500 in league play. Sophomore Cody Brady of LeTourneau batted .615 (8-for-13) with three RBIs, four runs scored, and two doubles in a 1-2 week for LeTourneau. He went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored in game three of the series at St. Thomas (Tex.) and was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs in a game-two win. Brady opened the series going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior Gabriel Ellison of Ozarks (Ark.) went 5-for-13 in the Eagles series against Schreiner. Ellison, who had a three-hit performance in game two, has hit safely in nine straight games. Senior Brayden Sprencel of Texas Lutheran was 8-for-14 (.571) over the weekend against Centenary with four RBIs and no strikeouts over a 1-2 weekend for the Bulldogs. Sprencel had two three-hit games over the weekend and had two or more hits in all three in the series.
