MATTHEW MCKENZIE OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Monday, February 16 through Tuesday, February 24. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 1)
McKenzie finished tied for fourth at the spring opening TPC San Antonio DIII Shoot-out, contested over the Canyons and Oaks courses at the TPC San Antonio. The senior shot rounds of 72, 69 and 76 to post a final score of 217 (+1) - the lowest score of any SCAC golfer at the event.
McKenize was tied for fourth among the field of 37 players with 34 pars and his 10 birdies were good for 10th. His performance led the Mountaineers to a third-place team finish, just five shots behind fellow SCAC member Concordia (Texas).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Kaden English of Concordia (Texas) paced the Tornados at the TPC San Antonio DIII Shootout, tying for sixth overall with a 54-hole total of 219 (+3). English opened with a 70 in round one, followed by a 72 in round two, before closing with a 77 to secure his top-10 finish. English then posted a top-10 finish at the Crusader Cup finishing tied for eighth with 157 (+13) over two rounds, shooting a 76 followed by an 81. First-year Ethan Hoang of Dallas led the Crusaders at the Crusader Cup finishing tied for 11th overall posting a 159 (+15). Hoang carded a 78 in the opening round and concluded the event with an 81. Sophomore Owen Prewitt of LeTourneau posted a top-five finish at the Crusader Cup with a 154 (+10) turning in an even par 72 in round one after five birdies. Prewitt concluded the event carding an 82 in round two. Junior Kendrick Hoster of McMurry finished fifth overall at the Crusader Cup with a 155 (+11) posting four birdies in round one for a 75 (+3), followed by an 80 in round two. Hoster's finish helped lead the War Hawks to the team title at the event. Sophomore Jesus Del Aguila of St. Thomas led the way for the Celts, finishing 11th overall with a three-round total of +8. He carded rounds of 73 (+1), 73 (+1), and 78 (+6), maintaining consistency through the first two rounds before closing out the tournament on Tuesday.
