GIANA HILLIARD OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 28th. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 5)
Hilliard totaled 30 kills in SCAC action with 15 each against TLU and Concordia (Tex.) in a 2-0 weekend for the Mountaineers. Hilliard averaged 3.75 kills per set with 20 digs posting a double-double in both matches and helped the Mountaineers to their first 3-0 start in SCAC play.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outside hitter Selah Coleman of Austin had a strong performance against Dallas finishing with six kills on nine attacks with zero errors, giving her a .667 hitting percentage in the win. She also averaged 2.33 digs in the sweep. First-year outside hitter/defensive specialist Zoe Garcia of Centenary tallied 29 digs, 25 kills, three block assists, three aces, and an assist. In Sunday's win over Ozarks (Ark.), she tallied a season-high 15 digs, nearly matched her season-high in kills (14) with 12, and had double-digit digs and kills in a match for the first time this season. Junior middle blocker Brooke Brilliant of Colorado College had 10 kills and a team-high .381 hitting percentage in CC's three-set sweep over St. Thomas to remain undefeated in the SCAC. Junior middle blocker Riley Brady of Hendrix posted 25 kills in a 2-0 weekend for the Warriors in league play. The junior tallied 12 kills in a three-set sweep over the Ladies, hitting .625 on 16 attacks. In the five-set win over LeTourneau, Brady once again hit double-figures with 13 kills. First-year setter/outside hitter Emily Mullin of LeTourneau posted a strong weekend with 17 kills, 52 assists and 21 digs in a 2-1 weekend for the YellowJackets. She averaged 4.73 assists, 1.55 kills and 1.91 digs per set. Senior setter/right side hitter Carli Colbert of McMurry posted 17 kills in league play over the weekend with a high of 11 against TLU. She also added 35 assists and 18 digs for the War Hawks. First-year outside hitter Arianna Gomez of Ozarks (Ark.) totaled 42 kills over two matches for a 6.0 kills per set average. Gomez had double-doubles in both matches including 26 kills and 13 digs against Centenary. Senior outside hitter Maselina Tuufuli of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with 23 kills in SCAC action including 14 against Schreiner in a five-set grind. The Bulldogs split action with a sweep of McMurry.
