LAURA SIERRA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 4
Sierra was a double winner last weekend at the Bulldogs home TLU Invite, winning both the shot put and the discus. She won the shot put with a personal best toss of 11.59m, currently the third-best mark in the SCAC this year and won gold in the discus with a throw of 37.12m. Her toss in the discus is the fourth best mark in the conference this year and a personal best for Sierra.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Gabrielle Malagarie of Centenary turned in a fifth-place finish in the high jump last weekend at the Belhaven Invitational. Malagarie cleared a season best 1.50m to post a top five finish among competition across all divisions. Her leap is currently the fifth best mark in all of the SCAC this season. Sophomore Keely Lueckeman of Colorado College posted a personal best mark in the javelin last weekend at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invite, finishing 15th with a toss of 34.20m. Currently her mark is ranked third across the SCAC. First-year Cylie Wong of Concordia (Tex.) continues her impressive rookie campaign, securing a runner-up finish in the high jump last weekend at the TLU Invite. Wong cleared 1.54m, a personal best and second-best this year in the SCAC, to earn second-place honors. First-year Hannah Dunster of LeTourneau secured 12th overall in the triple jump against competition across all divisions last weekend at the TCU Alumni Invite. Dunster posted a mark of 10.51m, the third best mark in the SCAC to date and personal best and second-best mark in LET program history. Sophomore Quadetra Wilburn of St. Thomas posted a personal best, finishing second overall in the long jump at the TLU invite last weekend. Wilburn posted a leap of 4.98m, currently fourth best in the SCAC this season.
