SUWANEE, Ga. - With two of the top three teams in the nation and three returning NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference looks to stand alone as one of the top DIII Women's Basketball Conferences in the country. Opening up play for the regualr season this past weekend the conference posted a 5-2 record including an 83-65 win for #2 Oglethorpe University over Ferrum on Saturday afternoon.
SUWANEE, Ga. Oglethorpe University returns to the hardwood this season after soaring all the way to the Final Four for the first time in school history a year ago. That success coupled with a senior laden team finds the Petrels the pre-season favorite to win the 2008-09 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference League Championship based on exclusive voting by the coaches of the conference.
STERLING, Va. - The SCAC had four players named to the 2008-09 D3hoops Preseason All-America team, led by last year's conference Player-of-the-Year Katie Kulavic of Oglethorpe University, who was a preseason second team selection.
