CALEB SMALL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Friday, February 6 through Sunday, February 8. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 1
Small began the year with a bang hitting .462 (6-for-13) over a weekend sweep of Howard Payne with three doubles and seven RBI, posting a 1.077 slugging percentage. Small posted a hit in each game beginning the year going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI before topping that with a triple and a home run with four RBI in game two. The sophomore is currently tied with teammate Chase Bourgeois leading the league in extra base hits with five.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Aron Gillum of Centenary had a monster opening weekend for the Diamond Gents as he hit a sizzling .429 (6-for-14) with four RBI, a three-run home run, a double, five runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base in four games against Occidental College and Whittier in California. Gillum posted three multi-hit games and tied his career-high of four RBI on Saturday against Occidental. Gillum finished with an .OBP of .529 and slugged .714 with 10 total bases. Senior Austin Rabago of Hendrix went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate and scored five runs in the Warriors' series win over Westminster. The senior was 3-for-5 in game one with five runs batted-in, including a two-RBI triple in the 8th to drive in the tying run. Rabago scored three runs in game two to go along with a double and recorded two hits in each of the final two games of the series. Sophomore Jack Kale of LeTourneau batted .500 (5-for-10) with an OPS of 1.315 to go along with two doubles and three RBIs as LeTourneau went 2-1. He was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in a season-opening loss to Millsaps. In a game three win over Millsaps that clinched the series win, Kale was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Junior Langdon Townsend of Ozarks (Ark.) opened the season hitting .500 with three RBI and five steals to push the Eagles to a 2-0 record. Townsend finished 5-for-5 in stolen bases during the series while homering in game two and swiping four bags. He finished with a .875 slugging percentage. Junior Miguel Acosta of St. Thomas (Tex.) turned in an efficient and productive week at the plate for the Celts, batting .667 across three games. He went 6-for-9 with a double, three RBI, and seven total bases, posting a .778 slugging percentage while reaching base in two additional plate appearances via walks. Acosta struck out just once, and contributed on both sides of the ball with a perfect fielding percentage at first base.
