WESTIN BRUCE OF HENDRIX COLLEGE, a junior from Georgetown, Texas has been selected the SCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 2 through Sunday, March 8. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 2
Bruce set two new school records on Friday at the Harding Invitational. The junior clocked a 10.67 in the men's 100 meters to break his own mark set last year by 0.09, then won the men's 200 meters with a 21.60, which shattered the previous school record set in 2018.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Christian Cormier of Centenary had a superb start to his season on Friday in the Gents' season-opeing meet, the LeTourneau University Invitational, as he won both the 100-meter run (11.01) and 200 meters (23.10) and was a member of the Gents' team that set a school record in the 4 x 100 meter relay (43.01). Senior Luc Santos of Colorado College won the 3,000-steeplechase at the CenTex Invitational in Georgetown, Texas, with a time of 9:49.93, the top time in the league this spring. First-year Peyton Jones of Ozarks (Ark.) followed last week's record-setting performance with another record-breaking run in the 1500-meter at the Harding University Invitational. Jones set the school's 1500-meter outdoor record running a 4:00.05. He finished second overall and was the top NCAA Division III runner in the race. Junior Sean Dansby of Schreiner competed in the men's 1500m finishing second place with a time of 4:13 at the Southwestern Central Texas Invitational and setting a new school record in the process. Senior Gabriel Ceballos of Texas Lutheran improved on the school record he had set his junior season in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. At the Central Texas Invite he ran 10:18.38, in the event, to finished 2nd. He improved on his school record by almost 6 seconds.
