DEPAUW'S HODGKINSON; RHODES' MAFFEI; TRINITY'S FARRIMOND HIGHLIGHT SOUTHERN COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE'S 15TH ANNIVERSARY WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM

SUWANEE, Ga. - DePauw University's Janie Hodgkinson, Rhodes College's Kate Maffei and Trinity University's Ashley Farrimond highlight an impressive list of past standouts named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's 15th Anniversary women's volleyball team.

Hodgkinson was a four-time First Team All-SCAC performer, culminating with the SCAC Player-of-the-Year award her senior year in 2001. Hodgkinson, who is the league's all-time leader in kills (2,214), finished second in the POTY voting in 1998 and 2000 and third in 1999. During her four-year career, she led the Tigers to two NCAA Tournament appearances and was DePauw's first-ever volleyball All-American (2000).

Maffei
is the league's all-time leader in career hitting percentage as well as service aces. Her career hitting percentage of .425 is the ninth-highest in Division III history and her 471 career service aces is third in Division III history. A four-time All-SCAC honoree, Maffei is also second on the SCAC all-time conference charts in kills (2,010) and sixth in digs (1,828).

Farrimond was a two-time SCAC Player-of-the-Year (2002, 2004), four-time First Team All-SCAC performer and last season became just the fifth player in Division III history to be selected a four-time All-American. She was a second team All-American selection in 2001 and earned first team honors her last three years in San Antonio. Farrimond is the league's all-time career leader in assists per game (12.21) and her 5,297 career assists ranks third on the SCAC all-time list.

It should come as no surprise that Trinity dominated the 15th anniversary All-SCAC voting. With 11 conference titles in 14 years, the Tigers had six selections to the 12-member team. Joining Farrimond on the squad are former Tigers Morgan Anderson, Amy Barrett, Shawn McLaughlin, Desiree Pratt and Amy Waddell.

Anderson hit .325 for her career (fifth-best in SCAC history) and was a four-time All-SCAC selection (2000-2003). She finished second in the league's POTY voting both her junior and senior years and also earned All-American honors those same seasons. Barrett was a two-time SCAC POTY (1995 and 1996) and was selected as an All-American those same two seasons. The four-time All-SCAC selection ended her career with 1,677 kills - good for seventh all-time in league history. McLaughlin, the 2003 SCAC POTY, is another four-time All-SCAC performer that Trinity coach Julie Jenkins has produced. McLaughlin ranks sixth on the all-time SCAC list for kills (1,766) and was selected as First Team All-American in 2003. Pratt is second on the SCAC career assists list (5,433) and was the SCAC POTY in 2000. Pratt, a four-time All-SCAC performer and two-time All-American (1999, 2000) was a vital cog of the Trinity team that made it all the way to the NCAA Division III title match in 1999. Waddell is the only player in SCAC volleyball history to garner three POTY awards (1991-1993). When she was named second-team All-American in 1991, Waddell became the first female student-athlete in both school and conference history to be so honored. She was also selected as an All-American the following season.

Southwestern University has two former student-athletes on the team, led by 1997 SCAC POTY Kelly Word. Word, who finished second in the POTY voting in both 1995 and 1996, was a four-time All-SCAC performer and led the Pirates to two conference championships in her four years in Georgetown (1995 and 1997). Her 1997 team is the last team not named Trinity to win a SCAC volleyball title. The Pirates' Brittany Sauser, a three-time All-SCAC honoree who graduated last year, ranks fifth all-time in league history in total assists (4,555).

Leah Ballinger of Centre College ended her career as the SCAC's all-time leader in assists with 5,997 and also finished with the seventh-highest dig total with 1,822. She was named All-SCAC all four years in the league.

Millsaps College is represented on the team by Margaret Dykes. Dykes, a four-time all-conference honoree, owns the sixth-highest hitting percentage in SCAC history (.314) and is third on the all-time kills list with 1,883.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will be announcing 15th Anniversary teams in all 18 sports during the 2005-06 academic year. The SCAC was formed in 1991 after a reorganization of its predecessor, the College Athletic Conference (CAC). The CAC dates to 1962 with four charter members: Centre College, Southwestern @ Memphis (now Rhodes College), Sewanee-The University of the South, and Washington & Lee (Va.) University. Washington (Mo.) University joined the CAC later that same year.

The SCAC was formed to provide an association through which the member institutions may encourage organized competition in intercollegiate sports among teams representative of their respective student bodies. Members of this conference share a commitment to priority of the overall quality of academic standards and quality educational experiences.

The SCAC's 15th Anniversary teams were selected in each sport through balloting by present coaches and administrators. Athletes who participated in conference competition between the fall of 1991 through the spring of 2005 and had been named to at least two All-SCAC teams were eligible for selection.
