Lance Key is in his seventh season as head coach of the Tiger women’s soccer team.
Coach Key has guided the Tigers to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament five times, and to the quarterfinals twice (2005 and 2009). Trinity has also won four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference titles (2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009) under Coach Key’s leadership.
The Tigers have chalked up a record of 88-13-10 (.838) since Coach Key took the reins in 2004. Trinity has also produced three undefeated regular-season campaigns, including 2009.
Six Tiger players have earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America honors under Coach Key’s tutelage, with three receiving the recognition following the 2009 season. Trinity has also produced five NSCAA Scholar-Athletes, and two national Academic All-Americans, as voted by College Sports Information Directors of America.
For his efforts, Coach Key has been honored three times as the SCAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year (2004, 2006, and 2009). He also has been named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year (2009).
Coach Key, a former Tiger men’s player, was a three-time All-American from 1996-1999, and was named SCAC Men’s Player of the Year in 1999.
After his collegiate career, Coach Key was the only Division III player selected in the 2000 Major League Soccer draft. He played for the Colorado Rapids, starting 34 games over a two-year span.
He has been director of girls training for the Classic Elite Soccer Club, and holds an Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA.
Coach Key earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Trinity in 2000.
