MICHAEL KENNEDY OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior from Epsom Surrey, United Kingdom, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Tuesday, January 20 through Sunday, January 25. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 11)
Kennedy completely controlled the paint recording six blocks in just 20 minutes of action. His defensive presence alone changed offensive possessions and helped shut down any momentum. He also added eight rebounds as the Crusaders picked up a 77-50 win over Hendrix.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Nicholas Addison of Centenary had an impressive week for the Gents in a pair of home games against Howard Payne and Concordia (Tex.) as he averaged 9.0 rebounds per game and totaled four assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. He averaged 6.0 points per game and of his 18 total rebounds, 15 came on the defensive end. Sophomore Cooper Smith of LeTourneau produced his second career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go with two steals in a 95-67 win over Texas Lutheran. Smith recorded a career-high 11 rebounds in the win, including eight on the defensive side, as LeTourneau held TLU to its lowest point total of the year. Senior Angel Johnson of St. Thomas (Tex.) was the engine on the defensive end across two games, setting the tone with his activity, awareness, and decision-making. He consistently disrupted passing lanes and applied pressure, finishing the weekend with five steals while helping limit opponents’ offensive flow to get the wins on the weekend. Johnson also posted 19 assists across two contests. Junior Teddy Tapken of Texas Lutheran posted his second double-double of the season with 13 rebounds and 11 points in a loss to LeTourneau. Tapken posted 10 defensive boards in 36 minutes of action.
