Six All-American Swims Highlight SCAC Performances at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six All-American swims highlighted SCAC performances at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. CHAMPIONSHIPS SITE

Trinity junior Neely Burns led all SCAC swimmers after turning in three top 25 individual swims, highlighted by a pair All-American honors. She turned in the conference’s top individual performance by finishing eighth in the 400-yard individual medley. The defending NCAA Champion secured her third-straight All-American honor in this event by finishing eighth this year with a time of 4:24.11. Burns also secured Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.56 to claim 11th. She rounded out her individual efforts with a 23rd place finish in the 200-IM after posting a prelim time of 2:05.39.

Burns closes out her individual SCAC career with eight All-American swims, including the 2024 NCAA National Championship in the 400-IM. Her eight individual All-American honors are the most by any female swimmer in SCAC history, passing Sarah Scott of Trinity who secured seven individual AA awards from 1995-1998.

Trinity sophomore and 2025 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, Amy Benson turned in a trio of top 30 individual finishes, highlighted by an All-American performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Benson took 15th in the event with a time of 23.34 to earn Honorable Mention All-American accolades. It marked her second-straight AA honor in the event and third AA honor overall in her career. Benson also placed 19th (50.80) in the 100-yard freestyle and 28th (1:51.98) in the 200-yard freestyle.

Individually on the men’s side, Trinity first-year Luke Fender secured a pair of All-American honors and turned in three top 25 finishes in his debut at the National Championships. Fender earned Honorable Mention All-American honors finishing 13th in both the 500- and 1650-yard freestyle with respective times of 4:28.96 and 15:45.17. He is just the second swimmer in SCAC history and first since Robert Dimitri of Trinity in 1996 to earn AA accolades in those two events at the same NCAA Championship. Fender wrapped up his first NCAA Championship by finishing 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:39.00.  

In relay action, the Trinity women’s 800-freestyle relay squad, composed of Burns, Benson, Audrey Jacobson and Julia Carter earned the final All-American honor of the week for the SCAC. The quartet finished 16th to earn Honorable Mention honors with a time of 7:43.07.

The Tigers posted two other top 20 relay performances finishing 19th in both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. The 200-free relay squad of Benson, Carter, Allison Ortiz and Rachel Brown turned in a time of 1:34.74, while the 400-free relay quartet of Jacobson, Burns, Carter and Benson hit the wall in a time of 3:29.16.

For the meet, SCAC student-athletes collected five individual All-American honors and one relay team received All-American recognition.

In the team standings, the Trinity women finished 25th overall with 21 total points, while the Tiger men finished 41st with eight total points. MIT captured the women’s NCAA title with 497 points, while Denison secured the Men’s crown with 463.5 points.
