JAKE ESTRADA OF UNIVERSITY OF THE OZAKRS, a junior right-handed pitcher from West Covina, Calif., has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 7 through Sunday, April 13. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Estrada pitched a three-hit nine-inning complete game to lead the Eagles to a 5-1 win in Friday's nightcap against St. Thomas. Estrada used his 90+mph fastball to keep the Celts off-balance all-night finishing with eight strikeouts. He completed his dominant performance by retiring the side in the ninth. The junior right-hander issued just two walks and was not charged with an earned run, posting an impressive 0.56 WHIP and perfect 0.00 ERA in the process.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Trystan Mallory of Austin College put on one of the best performances of his career in a loss at Southwestern, as the southpaw got a no-decision after taking a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh. Mallory left the opening game of Austin College's series with the Pirates with a 3-1 lead through 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.43. Junior pitcher Jacob Broussard of Centenary pitched 4.1 innings in relief on Saturday in game one of the Diamond Gents' DH at Trinity and allowed just one earned run and five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Senior Dakota Palmer of Concordia was superb in his two appearances on the mound last week, issuing 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings of work. Palmer helped the Tornados earn an SCAC series win over Dallas after getting a win, going 7.1 innings striking out eight in a 3-0 win over the Crusaders. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Ethan Wendel of McMurry helped the War Hawks get a key SCAC series win over TLU on the road getting a win in game two of the series. Wendel went 7.0 innings, scattering five hits and striking out three while allowing just one earned run. Sophomore Jacob Mead of St. Thomas delivered a exceptional performance on the mound, tossing 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out nine to get the win. Mead limited opponents to a .053 batting average. Senior left hander Nolan McInvale of Texas Lutheran got the win in the series opener against McMurry. McInvale went 7.1 innings, surrendering just seven hits and striking out two in a 7-4 win. Sophomore Brandon Morio of Trinity helped the Tigers earn an SCAC sweep over Centenary, picking up the win in the Tigers 6-1 victory last Saturday. Morio tossed 6.0 shutout innings during which he allowed just two hits and recorded eight strikeouts. He now holds an ERA of just 0.87 this season and improved to 5-0 with last week's victory.
