ANDIE LOZANO-LOMELI OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from Brownsville, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from Tuesday, September 30th through Sunday, October 5th. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 6)
Lozano-Lomeli averaged over a block per set for the Bulldogs with 11 total blocks over three matches. She posted five against Centenary while adding 12 kills, and hit .688, the fifth-highest hitting percentage with a minimum of 12 kills in program history for TLU. Her 1.22 blocks per set average was over twice her season average entering the weekend's competition.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College totaled 58 digs over a 2-1 weekend for the 'Roos in league play, averaging 5.80 digs per set. Kovacs had a high of 25 digs in a four set win over preseason SCAC favorite Colorado College while adding 23 total assists over the weekend. First-year outside hitter/defensive specialist Destiny Labbe of Centenary totaled 10 digs and 12 kills for the Ladies over three conference matches. Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Elyse McKinney of LeTourneau posted 51 digs for an average of 5.10 per set with a career-high 28 digs in a four-set win over Concordia (Tex.). Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Jalie Miller of McMurry tallied 35 digs in conference play with 64 on the week after 29 in a win over Howard Payne in four sets. Miller posted 14 digs in the lone conference win of the week against Dallas. First-year outside hitter Brooke Humphrey of Ozarks (Ark.) posted 24 digs over three matches for the Eagles with 12 against Schreiner. Humphrey also added 27 kills and a pair of blocks over the weekend. Senior defensive specialist Jenna Palomarez of Schreiner totaled 50 digs in conference play with 65 total across four matches this week. Palomarez averaged 5.56 digs per set in league play with 11 assists in a 4-0 week for the Mountaineers. Junior libero Carly Lange of St. Thomas (Tex.) anchored the Celts in a 3-0 week with 65 digs, averaging 5.91 digs per set. Lange totaled 20 or more digs in all three conference victories with a weekend-high of 24 against Hendrix.
