Caitlin Roach, Texas Lutheran University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 9)

CAITLIN ROACH OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 9)

Roach helped the Bulldogs limit opponents to just one goal over three matches, including a pair of shutouts in SCAC play, as TLU posted a 2-0-1 record on the week. Roach and the Bulldogs has posted three consecutive shutouts in league play and a total of six on the season, one shy of matching the program record (2015, 2017) for most conference clean sheets in a single regular season. She was also active offensively, registering an assist in TLU’s, 5-0, win over Centenary on Friday. Roach and TLU have allowed just three goals since the calendar turned to October. Her efforts has helped TLU secure the program’s first ever SCAC Regular Season Crown and the number one seed at next month’s conference tournament.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

First-year goalkeeper Kinsey Fulks of LeTourneau continued her strong rookie season in net for the YellowJackets. Fulks lifted LeTourneau to a 1-0-1 record, highlighted by a 2-1 win at Ozarks on Friday to keep the YellowJackets in the hunt for a berth into the SCAC Tournament. She finished the week with nine saves, bringing her season total to 61 (tied for 2nd in the SCAC), and posted a .818 save percentage and a1.00 goals against average. Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Villarreal of McMurry controlled the center of the field defensively, leading the War Hawks to a 1-0-1 record on the week, including a 4-1 road conference win against Dallas. Villarreal and the War Hawks also secured a shutout in non-conference action against UMHB in a scoreless draw. Villarreal’s efforts have helped McMurry stay in the hunt for a postseason bye and a shot at the number two overall seed going into the final weekend of regular season action. Senior goalkeeper Jayla Lucus of Ozarks recorded three saves in a 1-0 shutout victory at home over Austin College on Sunday. The shutout is the first SCAC shutout in program history.
